The cross is a symbol for Christians of the great price Christ paid so anyone who believes may have eternal live in the presence of our Savior. John 3:16

The leaning cross in this sculpture represents how only simple faith is required to make that connection; no work, just simple faith.

The person who was hanging on this leaning cross had only moments until the end of his life. There was no time for work, no time for pride, just recognition of Christ doing the work on his behalf or simple faith…“Leaning on Jesus”.

Don’t miss the other cross standing alone…oh so close but yet so far away. The same work was done by Christ on his behalf as was done for the other criminal. His past deeds, whatever they may have been, is not what keeps that cross standing so erect and alone. Chalk that up to pride and ego; so close yet separated for eternity.

Luke 23:39-43 New Living Translation

One of the criminals hanging beside Jesus scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us!”

But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
